Perimeter Security

A modular and scalable platform able to detect and manage threats, ensuring the safety and security of the SOF CP.

The PROTEAS Shelter Infrastructure offers rapidly deployable material boasting quick installation and essential amenities such as lighting, flooring, and HVAC systems, making them an efficient solution for various operational needs.

Waste water at a SOFCP is composed of two primary types: gray water and black water. In the PROTEAS project, the focus will on recycling gray water and treating all waste water for onsite disposal, reducing the reliance on bulk potable water transport. PROTEAS plans to examine the trade-offs between potable water and waste water reduction, with a dedicated Water Management System.

Power generation and supply infrastructure is a major component of the SOFCP set-up. Being at the core of a SOF operation, resilient electric power supply for SOFCP mission systems (i.e. C2, Communications, IT, etc.) is critical in ensuring unrestricted mission effectiveness and continuity.

The PROTEAS Perimeter Security System integrates passive sensors along the SOFCPC2 perimeter, correlating real-time data through a centralized platform for threat detection and incident management, by employing a variety of sensors.

PROTEAS incorporates a Multi-domain Command and Control (C2) system with a modular architecture tailored to meet the diverse needs of special forces missions, integrating new capabilities and means efficiently. Designed for both complex systems and stand-alone deployment, the tactical software focuses on user-driven interfaces suitable for outdoor, degraded conditions, or centralized command centers.

PROTEAS introduces a groundbreaking end-user terminal, the Portable C2 Platform, tailored for field-deployed Special Operations Forces (SOF) units, offering tactical edge Command and Control (C2) functionality. Equipped with advanced navigation and sensor management tools, it facilitates situational awareness and dynamic messaging among SOF during missions, with the ability to share information seamlessly with the PROTEAS Multi-Domain C2 and other ground/air elements.

Digitally-Aided Close Air Support (DACAS) plays a pivotal role in modern military operations, facilitating rapid communication and shared situational awareness between ground operators and fighter aircraft to streamline targeting processes. PROTEAS leverages both existing and innovative software solutions to enhance communication between Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) and fighter aircraft.

Soldier intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities rely on aggregating data from various sources like Blue Force tracking and manual input in C2 systems, enhanced by tactical smartphones, tablets, and GNSS units. Audible and haptic feedback aids navigation and situational awareness, while reconnaissance systems including spotters, night vision, and thermal imaging devices bolster enemy detection. Connectivity to the PROTEAS C2 system enables real-time data sharing and live video streams, with targets marked and shared within the network.

The PROTEAS Mini-DC Solution, a vital component in modern military operations, offers SOF the capability to analyze and share real-time data securely, enhancing decision-making processes and operational efficiency. This modular, sovereign solution enables fully autonomous operations and rapid deployment, transforming SOFCP into a cloud node within hours.

In PROTEAS, satellite communications networks will offer vital connectivity in remote or inaccessible regions and serve as a backup solution. Featuring quickly deployable solutions with portable Flyway antennas equipped with auto-pointing and auto-acquire functionalities, the system ensures robust communication with redundant components.

In PROTEAS, a secure Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) radio system is designated to support last-mile communications within SOF teams in the field, facilitating multi-service voice and data transmission. The system boasts advanced MANET radio technology with self-configured and self-healing capabilities, ensuring high data rates of up to 16 Mbps and simultaneous voice, data, and video communications.

PROTEAS is set to deploy a secure portable stand-alone private 5G Network to fulfill various critical needs within SOFCP operations. These include ensuring the physical security of the area through sensor management, providing an alternative communication network with multi-service capabilities, and facilitating interconnection with public 5G networks.

The PROTEAS Cyber Security Framework comprises several modules aimed at bolstering cyber defense capabilities within SOFCP operations.

The PROTEAS Big Data Analytics Framework is poised to handle vast datasets within a sovereign, open-source, and secure environment, featuring a Software Development Kit (SDK) for modular development and integration. Employing Infrastructure as Code (IAC) through Terraform, it ensures easy deployment and management across various cloud platforms.

The PROTEAS Intelligence Platform will consist of various services including:

  • PROTEAS Image & Geospatial Intelligent Services
  • PROTEAS Meteorological & Oceanographic Intelligent Services
  • PROTEAS Signal Intelligent Services
  • PROTEAS CYBERINT Services
  • PROTEAS High Value Target / High Value Interface Services

The PROTEAS Manned Surface Vehicles and its mission suite are tailored for SOF Maritime operations, particularly Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO), targeting maritime terrorism, refugee flows, and illegal trafficking. Collaborating closely with the PROTEAS Multi-Domain C2, the vehicle shares a Common Maritime Operating Picture, facilitating the transportation of SOF Team Units from Sea to Shore and conducting ISR missions.

The following type of vehicles will be employed so as to perform reconnaissance missions around the Command Post or in support of SOF Task Groups/Units:
  • PROTEAS Unmanned Surface Vessel
  • PROTEAS Unmanned Aerial System
  • PROTEAS Unmanned Ground Asset (also referred to as the Robotic Dog)

In PROTEAS, a collaborative, multi-agent system for heterogeneous unmanned platforms (USV/UAV) will be developed. Multi-agent management algorithms will autonomously decompose the global mission plan, and allocate tasks for the PROTEAS USV and UAV, considering payload and prioritizing targets. This system significantly reduces the cognitive load on the C2 operator.

PROTEAS aims to integrate diverse command systems across land, air, and naval units into a unified Common Operational Picture (COP), ensuring cyber-secure aggregation and correlation of operational data. This COP will offer a shared view of forces, locations, and intentions, enhancing decision-making for joint and inter-agency staff.

PROTEAS will establish interoperability with external entities to exchange intelligence and tactical information seamlessly. These entities may include ISR libraries standardized by NATO, BICES, other data sources and MARSUR for tracking vessels and border surveillance.
