Role in PROTEAS project: Provider of Acoustic Sensor
In today’s complex security environment, the ability to detect, classify, and respond to threats quickly is essential. At Squarehead Technology, we specialize in providing acoustic situational awareness, helping protect what we depend on most. As part of the PROTEAS project, we’re proud to bring this capability to the forefront of European defense collaboration. With our expertise in acoustic intelligence and detection systems, we contribute to the project’s goals with enhanced perimeter security.
Acoustic Intelligence for Perimeter Security
A key component of the PROTEAS system, among other, is the development of a robust and modular perimeter security solution. Squarehead contributes to this by integrating our Discovair G2 acoustic array into the broader sensor framework of the Special Operations Forces Command Post (SOFCP).
Squarehead’s Discovair G2 system is designed for passive acoustic detection and classification, allowing operators to be aware of potential threats on the ground and in the air without emitting signals that could compromise their position. Within PROTEAS, Discovair will be part of a multi-sensor perimeter, providing continuous monitoring and real-time intelligence in the field.
Supporting Flexibility and Mobility
The adaptability of the command post is central to PROTEAS, and our technology supports this flexibility. Squarehead is working on tailoring the Discovair system for deployment in fixed, semi-mobile, and mobile configurations. This includes research and development efforts focused on integrating our acoustic array onto unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
By enabling Discovair to function on robotic platforms, we extend the sensor range beyond static installations. This mobile deployment model enhances operational flexibility and allows the command post to maintain situational awareness in rapidly evolving or hard-to-monitor environments.
Integration into the Command and Control Architecture
In addition to perimeter monitoring, our work in PROTEAS also supports the multi-domain command and control (C2) architecture. Squarehead’s technology ensures that acoustic data is not only captured effectively, but also integrated seamlessly into the tactical software systems used by SOF units.
Through this integration, operators gain real-time access to sound-based threat intelligence alongside inputs from other sensors. This contributes to faster decision-making, improved threat classification, and more comprehensive situational awareness for the SOF.
Moving European Defense Technology Forward
Squarehead Technology’s role in PROTEAS reflects the organization’s broader commitment to advancing European defense capabilities through innovation and collaboration. As part of a consortium of 14 partners and 1 affiliated entity across seven countries, Squarehead is working together to develop tools that meet the real-world needs of European SOF.
By contributing their acoustic expertise, Squarehead Technology helps enhance the operational effectiveness, security, and adaptability of the future SOF Command Post.
